

Interestingly, Harlan is not only known for his writing as he was a prolific athlete in his younger years. He is not only one of the most prolific working writers, but also one of the most successful. His books have been published in 43 languages and over 70 millions of those books are in print worldwide. Harlan Coben is one of the most prolific writers working today.

Outside of the Bolitars’ stories, Coben is more prolific writing stand-alone books, having returned to writing them in 2001, after creating Myron Bolitar after the release of Play Dead, and his second stand-alone book Miracle Cure, which was released in 1991. The first book in the Mickey Bolitar series is Shelter, which was released in 2011, and, like the majority of Coben’s work, is a crime thriller, just aimed at a younger audience than his previous work. Harlan Coben then moved into the world of Young Adult fiction, with his series of books featuring Mickey Bolitar, the nephew of Myron Bolitar. It is followed by Fade Away, which revolves around the world of basketball.

The Bolitar series continued with Drop Shot, which features a murder at tennis’ US Open.

It features Bolitar and one of his star clients, Christian Steele, a rookie quarterback, and they both end up tangled in a web of lies when a woman, missing, presumed dead, turns up into Steele’s life, and who turns out to be an ex-girlfriend. Myron Bolitar first appears in Deal Breaker, which was released in 1995. The love of sport is a recurring theme throughout Coben’s work, with the main series of work featuring the character of Myron Bolitar, a sports agent who, at times, has to help out solve crimes that has sporting clients are involved in. The missing husband is a fictional player for the Boston Celtics, David Baskin. That book was called Play Dead, and it is about a bride looking into the disappearance of her husband whilst on their honeymoon. It was during his time at Amherst that Coben started to pursue his love of writing, but it wasn’t until 1990, when he was 28, that he had his first book published. For his tertiary education, Coben went to Amherst University, so he didn’t venture too far from home in New Jersey, with Amherst being in Massachusetts The author Harlan Coben was born in January 1962, in the New Jersey district of Newark, and he was raised in Livingston, also in the state of New Jersey.
